CHapter two:
the prank
Age: 9
Gregor left the house through the back door, playing hide and seek with his hyperactive son, that rascally ball of energy. Naturally, he had Ka’ Lihlhl backing him up in case the plan went wrong. He patiently waited on top of the house, ready to shoot the toy arrow he had already nocked in his bow. His target was his father, the victim of this practical joke.
His target had entered his line of sight, and he focused. He fired, sending the blunt wooden arrow straight at his father, landing a direct hit on his left buttock. Gregor turned around and looked in the general direction that the arrow came from. Just as he was about to notice him, Ka’ Lihlhl tackled him from behind, sending them both tumbling across the grass.
Sci’ Taar aimed another arrow at his father, but missed. All he managed to hit was the rear end of his accomplice. He thought to himself, “Nice job, Idiot.” and Ka’ Lihlhl realized that it wasn’t Gregor who caused that pain. He turned to the roof, and started yelling at Sci’ Taar, jumping up and down and pointing at him.
Gregor got up, and looked at the part of the roof that Ka’ Lihlhl was pointing at. He commanded that Sci’ Taar “get down off the roof and face his old man” and after a rude gesture and a hysterical smile, he was down and getting lectured. Of course, he wasn’t listening. All he heard was, ‘like a true Nord’, ‘immature’, and ‘Sci’ Taar.’
He stood there in the backyard, bored. Plan B was starting to emerge. He looked at Ka’ Lihlhl, and they both nodded. Then, they took off their shirts and waved them over their heads as they ran through the village square. It didn’t take too long for Gregor to catch them and send Sci’ Taar to bed, and have Ka’ Lihlhl go back to his camp, the only home he had ever known.
